Step 2: Compare

Cobra
COBRA gives workers and their families the right to continue their group health insurance after job loss, reduction in hours, or other life events. Usually it applies for 18–36 months depending on the situation, but you must pay the full premium yourself.
We recommend checking with your benefits coordinator to see if COBRA coverage is available to you. COBRA benefits often provide more comprehensive coverage and may have similar premiums compared to the plans available on MNsure.
COBRA could be especially valuable if the following are important to your healthcare needs:
- Access to Mayo Clinic in Rochester
- Out-of-state coverage
If either of these factors applies to you, COBRA may be your most suitable option.
Employer Health Insurance
Do you have access to health insurance through an employer due to active employment?
Visit this link to identify if your employer coverage is considered unaffordable by MNsure:

- If your employer coverage is considered unaffordable, you may be eligible for a tax credit to reduce your monthly premium.
- If your employer coverage is considered affordable, you will be responsible for the full premium.
